Like a dragonfly freely flying in the sky, it’s a sweet potato shochu with the character of a brisk and refreshing feeling. In order to enjoy it on the rocks, we maintained a delicate balance, keeping the sweet potato aroma in check with light floral notes.
Suggested Way to Drink
Serve on the Rocks
Using an old-fashioned glass, with cracked ice on the large side, pour shochu inside while avoiding the ice. It becomes soft and smooth as the melting ice blends in. It also has a fruity scent.
Serve with Water
Be daring and fill a highball glass with crushed ice, pouring Ao Tonbo and mineral water with a 2 : 1 ratio.
Ao Tonbo and Tonic
In a glass with ice mix Ao Tonbo and tonic water with a 1 : 2 ratio, then add lemon or lime to your taste.
Ao Tonbo and Club Soda
Mix Ao Tonbo with club soda, without any sweetener as it ruins the flavor!
Tips and Additional Background
Like western alcoholic beverages, you can enjoy shochu accompanied with cheese. Prosciutto matches as well. If you’re in the mood for something on the sweeter side, try wagashi*, especially sweet potato yōkan** which goes perfect with Ao Tonbo, rather than chocolate.
* traditional Japanese confections
**Japanese jellied dessert made of sweet potato, sugar, and agar.
